Hoosier Hill Farm Alum Powder Granulated, 1 Lb.
Granulated Alum powder is a versatile product. Although alum powder is most commonly used in pickling recipes, to keep pickles crispy, customers have found dozens of other alum powder uses, including: tanning hides, dying and coloration, papermaking, medicine, animal care, personal hygiene, soil treatment, and even water purification. Also known as aluminum sulfate or powdered alum, alum powder gained some spotlight on the TV show Looney Toons, where characters would use it to shrink each others' heads. In fact, alum powder is an astringent, meaning that it can shrink body tissues (although certainly not heads). This is why alum powder is sometimes used as an aftershave or to treat canker sores.
Our alum powder is pure, granulated, and very useful! If you are interested in making your family's secret pickle recipe, your own toothpaste, or play dough - you will want to have some Alum Powder on hand. It's a versatile salt that aids baking leavening, has antibacterial properties, and helps maintain the crispness of fruits or vegetables throughout the pickling process. Toothpaste and deodorant include Alum for its known antibacterial properties. Topically, Alum has been used for healing small cuts, or applying to canker sores.
- Use as a preservative for floral arrangements. Simply dip the fresh cut stem in Alum Powder and place in the arrangement.

Did not grow alum crystals like we read online, but I'm sure it's not just the alum.

This is just what I needed for making dill pickles. In stores, alum is provided in very small packaging; not hardly enough to make several batches like I needed. This container provided more than enough alum for lots of dill pickling, with enough to spare for next time. I hate running out! I very much appreciate the pricing. Thank you for your product and I will order more next time.

Alum in the powdered form is excellent to use with hydrangeas when using in floral oasis. Dip freshly cut stem in alum and then put in arrangement. I use it every time I use hydrangeas in wedding flowers and other arrangements.

If you need alum powder for pickling, this will do the trick. It is a little larger grain than the alum that you can buy in the grocery store, but it is a lot cheaper. 'used this and we couldn't tell any difference between this and the more expensive store brand. (It is dissolved in water when using in pickling, so it doesn't make any difference if the grains are a little larger!)
