Shelf Life: 22-24 Months

Textured Vegetable Protein Burgers

1 cup Hoosier Hill Farm Textured Vegetable Protein
3/4 cup Water (boiling hot)
1/4 cup Ketchup*
1/2 tsp Oregano, Mediterranean ground
1/4 cup Carrots grated
1 Tbsp Parsley Flakes dried
1/2 tsp Marjoram ground
1/4 cup Celery finely chopped
1/2 cup Hoosier Hill Farm Vital Wheat Gluten
1 tsp Sea Salt
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
2 Tbsp Green Onion finely chopped
1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil

In a medium sized mixing bowl combine the boiling water with the TVP, ketchup, sea salt and herbs. Let stand for 10 minutes, then mix in the grated carrot, chopped celery, chopped green onion and parsley flakes. Mix in the oil and vital wheat gluten flour to make a firm mixture. Scoop out a packed 1/2 cup of the mixture and shape into a patty. Repeat until you have 4 formed patties. Place patties on a greased baking sheet at bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, flipping burger after 15 minutes. Serve with traditional topping or fresh sautéed mushrooms to make "mushroom burgers".

*Use tomato sauce instead of ketchup for a lower sugar option.
Defatted Soy Flour.

After reading another review on soaking this first then using it I tried this product again and it came out great. I made a pasta dish. I plan to keep this on hand all the time now. I worked at a factory long ago and we used this when making burritos so knew it could be good.

Advantages: Soak before using to absorb flavor and it works fine.

I love this TVP so much. I add it dry to pasta sauces, curries and chili recipes, letting it soak up the flavors as it softens. Thickens the sauce nicely, too. It looks, tastes and behaves enough like finely crumbled ground beef, that unless I make a grand announcement about it being TVP, people haven't known that it wasn't ground beef. As I type this, I have a deep dish lasagna cooking that was made using a cup of this TVP. The other TVP we have in our cupboard (popular brand) is quite rubbery after cooking and its texture/taste reminds me of canned clams, to be honest. Hoosier Hill Farm's TVP, however, is fantastic and the only TVP we'll purchase from now on.

Advantages: Easy to cook with, thickens dishes, mimics ground beef in sauces, curries, and chili.

If you know how to use TVP properly, this will do the trick!I like that it is colored, so my "meat"loaves don't look like they're made from breadcrumbs!

Advantages: Exactly what I wanted: a versatile, vegetarian protein that stores well.
