Ice Cream Mixing Instructions

Welcome! You scanned the pouch, so let's get churning. Hoosier Hill Farm Real Dairy Ice Cream Mix works in most home ice cream machines. Find your machine below for exact amounts, or use the any-machine ratios at the bottom of the page. Every flavor (Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry) uses the same simple method: mix with cold water, then let your machine do the work.

The Basic Method (Every Machine)

  1. Pour cold water into a household blender.
  2. Add the ice cream mix powder.
  3. Blend at low speed until all the powder dissolves.
  4. Pour the liquid mix into your ice cream maker and follow your machine's operation manual.

Start with refrigerator-cold water and keep the blender on low; high speed whips in foam. If foam forms, let the mix settle for a few minutes before pouring.

Why the Water and Powder Amounts Look Almost Equal

The recipe is 5 parts mix to 9 parts water by weight (for every 45.5g of dry mix, add 82g of water). Measured in cups, the two look close to equal, and that is not a mistake: a cup of light, dry powder weighs much less than a cup of water. Trust either system, just do not mix them. If you use cups, use cups for both. If you use a kitchen scale or ounces, use weight for both.

Ninja Creami (473 mL pint)

Flavor Water Ice Cream Mix Makes
Strawberry 9 oz (1 cup + 2 Tbsp / 270 mL) 1 cup (150g) About 3 servings
Vanilla 9 oz (1 cup + 2 Tbsp / 270 mL) 1 cup (150g) About 3 servings
Chocolate 10 oz (1 cup + 3 Tbsp / 285 mL) 1 cup (155g) About 3.5 servings

Blend the mix and water, pour into the Creami pint container (do not pass the max fill line), and freeze on a level surface for 24 hours. Then process on the Ice Cream setting.

Test kitchen tip: if the ice cream looks powdery after the first spin, do not worry. Re-spin using the Re-Spin button until you reach your desired consistency. For the creamiest results, add 1 tablespoon of milk or water before re-spinning.

Gourmia (700 to 1400 mL bowl)

Flavor Water Ice Cream Mix Makes
Strawberry 27 oz (3 1/3 cups / 800 mL) 3 cups (450g) About 10 servings
Vanilla 27 oz (3 1/3 cups / 800 mL) 3 cups (450g) About 10 servings
Chocolate 28 oz (3 1/2 cups / 840 mL) 3 cups (465g) About 10 servings

No pre-freezing required: nothing goes in the freezer ahead of time with the Gourmia. Blend the mixture until dissolved, rest it in the refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes, then pour it into the machine (up to 48 oz) and spin per the Gourmia manual.

Cuisinart (800 to 1000 mL batch)

Flavor Water Ice Cream Mix Makes
Strawberry 18 oz (2 1/4 cups / 540 mL) 2 cups (300g) About 7 servings
Vanilla 18 oz (2 1/4 cups / 540 mL) 2 cups (300g) About 7 servings
Chocolate 19 oz (2 1/3 cups / 560 mL) 2 cups (310g) About 7 servings

Blend until dissolved, pour into the frozen bowl with the machine running, and churn per the Cuisinart manual.

Any Other Ice Cream Machine

Use the ratios printed on the pouch and scale to your machine's capacity, leaving room per its fill line:

  • One quart: 11.8 oz (2 1/2 cups) mix + 21.2 oz cold water
  • One pint: 5.9 oz (1 1/4 cups) mix + 10.6 oz cold water

Blend at low speed until dissolved, then churn according to your machine's manual. One 35.4 oz pouch makes 3 quarts total.
